Our obsession:
the user first

AI-powered scheduling, built for humans.

The most powerful technology is useless if users don't know how to use it.

Plain was born from a simple conviction: we could have the most sophisticated algorithm on the market (and we do), but if HR managers still need Excel to tweak the result, we've failed.

Our commitment is radical:

  • Eliminate Excel from your life. Not as a slogan, as a reality. Plain generates schedules that need no manual adjustments afterwards.
  • Be on your side. We're not software that "also does shifts". We're specialists obsessed with solving YOUR specific scheduling problem.
  • Practical plans, not theoretical ones. A perfect schedule on paper that nobody can implement is worthless. Our algorithms understand real-world constraints: availability, collective agreements, mandatory rest periods, team preferences.
The question we ask ourselves every day: can an HR manager with no technical background generate the perfect schedule in 30 seconds?

If the answer is no, we keep working. That's why we iterate every week. That's why our support responds in minutes. That's why every new feature goes through real user testing before it launches.

AI does the heavy lifting. Usability makes you actually use it.

Mission

Giving time back to teams

Giving time back to teams by automating the complexity of shift scheduling, so any manager can create fair and efficient rosters in minutes, not hours.

Vision

Shift scheduling: simple, reliable and natural

We want shift scheduling to stop being a slow, manual, error-prone process. Our vision is to transform it — through artificial intelligence and an excellent user experience — into something simple, reliable and natural for any team.

Our values

1

Demand radical simplicity

Eliminate complexity without fear and discard any feature that doesn't deliver real value to the user.

2

Demand clarity by default

If something isn't understood at first glance, consider it incomplete and redesign it until it's obvious.

3

Listen with curiosity and operational empathy

Observe the customer's day-to-day reality to detect hidden friction and real opportunities for improvement.

4

Sustain impact with patience and judgement

Make decisions based on market knowledge and experience, not on haste or trends.

5

Build quality from design

Define quality from the outset and uphold it in every product and technology decision.

6

Put AI in service of people

Use AI only when it clearly, understandably and usefully improves human decisions.

7

Build advantage through collaboration

Combine different perspectives and judgements to make better decisions than any individual could alone.

18 years in the trenches

The team that founded Plain has spent 18 years in the shift-scheduling industry. Not as PowerPoint consultants, but in the trenches: implementing complex projects in hospitals with 24/7 on-call rosters, hotels with rotating shifts, manufacturing plants with collective-agreement constraints, and retail chains with over 50 locations.

There was powerful software out there, yes. With impressive features in demos. But when the moment of truth arrived, HR managers always ended up in the same place: opening Excel.

Because there was a massive gap between functionality and automation for non-technical users. Existing systems gave you 47 options, 200 configurations and a learning curve of weeks. But they didn't give you the one thing that mattered: a button to generate the perfect schedule automatically.

That gap is what Plain was built to close.

We took 18 years of expertise in hospitals, hotels, industry and retail. We compressed it into AI algorithms that understand the real constraints of each sector. And we wrapped it in an interface so simple that a non-technical manager can master it in 10 minutes.

The result: organisations that generate perfect schedules in seconds — no Excel, no errors, no last-minute scrambles.

We're not a startup experimenting. We're industry experts who decided to build the tool we ourselves needed 18 years ago.
